From Member Action to Statewide Impact — Join the Consortium

About The Consortium

MCCD is a statewide consortium of nonprofit community development organizations and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) committed to expanding access to wealth and resources for neighborhoods through housing and economic development initiatives. We work together to increase opportunities for quality, community-based projects through collaborative action on public policy issues, loan fund development, public education efforts, and long-term strategic planning.

Invest

Economic Development Members

Our economic development consortium members provide a wide variety of resources to small business owners and entrepreneurs across Minnesota, including technical assistance and lending. Our members collectively advance opportunities to reimagine a more just economy, with a focus on advancing racial equity by investing in BIPOC and immigrant-owned small businesses. We work together to cultivate opportunities to support worker-cooperatives, real estate strategies, and housing cooperatives to promote wealth-building, prevent displacement, and ensure community control of assets in BIPOC and underinvested communities.

Our Collective Impact:

1

Pushed to expand DEED’s Small Business Assistance Partnership Program, resulting in increased grants made to BIPOC and low-wealth entrepreneurs

2

Helped create Minnesota’s first state-funded loan program for shared ownership models like cooperatives and commercial land trusts.

Housing Members

MCCD’s housing consortium members provide, maintain, and develop affordable housing across the continuum–from supportive housing to rentals and homeownership–to get more Minnesotans into safe and stable housing. Our consortium addresses the affordable housing shortage in Minnesota by advocating for funding across the continuum of housing activities, including development, supportive services, rental assistance, and preservation across all levels of government. We also advance efforts to remedy the harm caused by racist homeownership practices and policies by advocating for increased resources for homeownership development and counseling.

Our Collective Impact:

1

Led efforts to secure a historic allocation in Housing Infrastructure cash, funding thousands of new and existing units of permanently affordable housing.

2

Pushed for the creation of state task force to address skyrocketing property insurance costs for affordable housing developers
