Supporting Small Businesses to Meet & Exceed Minneapolis' Labor Standards

We are excited to announce that we will be launching our Payroll and Bookkeeping pilot project in early 2023! 

We will be subsidizing payroll services and support for implementing those services for small business owners as part of a new pilot. This is a first-of-its-kind opportunity to address some of the key challenges small business owners face through implementing payroll practices to set small business owners up for success! Through this project, we aim to reimagine small business support in Minneapolis and beyond. 

We want this project to accomplish two things for small businesses: 1) To set businesses up with the tools they need to improve their success in loan applications, and 2) To help small businesses support their employees by making their jobs high quality and compliant with labor standards. This project is a step toward addressing the challenges of small business owners, especially those who have been systematically marginalized and disenfranchised, and who have trouble getting access to capital. 

This project is being conducted in collaboration with Main Street Alliance and the Workplace Justice Lab at Rutgers University, and funding from the City of Minneapolis. Selected applicants agree to take the necessary steps to come into compliance with Paid Sick & Safe Time, Minimum Wage and Overtime standards as set out by the city of Minneapolis, by one year from the date of the application. They will receive help in this process as part of the pilot.

2023 Application Important Dates and Timeline 

December 15 — Application opens

February 3 — First round applications closed; review begins

February 10 — First round applicants are selected; successful applicants will be notified.
